Effective September 25, 2025, the circulation of 5,000 tenge banknotes of the 2011 design (hereinafter referred to as old-style banknotes) will cease. Therefore, from that date onward, pawn shops will no longer accept old-style banknotes.
The redesigned 5,000 tenge banknotes of the 2023 design (hereinafter referred to as new-style banknotes) will be in circulation.
All banks and Kazpost will exchange old-style banknotes for new-style banknotes for three years, while branches of the National Bank of Kazakhstan will do so indefinitely.
